West Quaco | Griffin Pond Trail

We almost didn’t hit the trail today. A couple of locals gave us some questionable reviews about the condition and length of the trail. But Mom’s curiosity won, and off we went!
Trail Overview
Location: West Quaco, NB
Distance: 2.5 km trail (one way) with a little extra path for exploring after reaching the pond.
Difficulty: Easy
Dog-Friendly: Absolutely!
Scenic Views: Through the woods until it reaches Griffin Pond, which is stunning.
Trail Condition: ATV trail, wet/boggy in spots.
The Hike
We found the start of the trail at the end of Griffin Pond Road. According to the map, the trail is still technically Griffin Pond Road. However, it changes to a narrow ATV type trail which is not passable by vehicle.
There are no signs on the trail, but it is straight and pretty easy to follow. It travels through the woods—my favorite place!—but it can get a bit tricky. Some sections of the trail were flat and beautifully framed by the trees on either side. However, other spots were boggy, with standing water. Mom said, “Rumor, Leave It!” but I had to try. Let’s just say, it wasn’t the best refreshment.
There were also some uneven parts, and Mom had a little slip—she hurt her wrist but toughed it out like a champ. Be careful out here! It can get slippery, especially if you’re distracted by all the interesting smells like me.
Finally, we made it to Griffin Pond, and oh wow! On one side of the rocky berm was the Bay of Fundy, and on the other, Griffin Pond—a peaceful, beautiful spot. Keisha and I had to jump in and cool off. Keisha took her time, but I just dove right in, headfirst, no hesitation. The water was cold but refreshing. Mom said next time we should bring a picnic. I say we should bring more treats.
This trail had it all—muddy puddles, swimming spots, and the best views at the end. Plus, I got to cool off in the pond!
If you’re up for a longer day, you can extend your adventure by combining this trail with the Lighthouse Trail. From the end of the Lighthouse Trail at Brown’s Beach, take the wobbly staircase up, follow the road to Griffin Pond Road, and hop onto this trail for a full day of exploration.
Rumor’s Rating

Rumor has it, this trail’s got more puddles than I could drink in a lifetime.

Directions to the Griffin Pond Trail
As you enter St. Martins via Route 111, turn right onto West Quaco Road. Drive about 3.3 km, then turn right onto Griffin Pond Road. There’s a better parking spot after 0.1 km, but we went another 0.2 km up the hill and parked there—just be mindful that it’s mostly private property. The ATV trail starts here!
