Fundy Parkway | Sea Captain’s Burial Ground Trail

Hey, it’s me again, Rumor! We’ve been on some fun adventures, but today was extra special—short and sweet with a little history lesson along the way. We hit the Sea Captain’s Burial Ground Trail in the Fundy Trail Parkway, St. Martins, NB, and let me tell you, this trail was a real butt-wiggler!
Trail Overview
Location: Fundy Trail Parkway, St. Martins, NB
Distance: .4 km trail (one way) with a little extra path around the burial ground
Difficulty: Easy
Dog-Friendly: Absolutely!
Scenic Views: The trail winds through the woods and ends up at the burial ground.
Trail Condition: Well-maintained, natural paths.
Starting Off Right
We started our walk at P2, where the trailhead is conveniently located. After crossing a little footbridge (nothing too scary, I promise!), we entered a peaceful wooded area. The humans were happy because it was quiet—being a weekday near the end of September, we had the place to ourselves. I had the chance to sniff all the good spots without any distractions!
The trail was narrow at first, but it quickly widened up like an old roadway. Easy footing for paws and boots alike, with grass, mulch, and just a few tree roots. It’s a beautiful spot with plenty of benches along the way, in case you want to rest or take some photos. I didn’t need a rest, of course—too much to explore!
A Step Back in Time
As we neared the end of the trail, a short path led us to the Sea Captain’s Burial Ground. Now, here’s where things got interesting. This isn’t just any old graveyard—it’s the final resting place of several sea captains who sailed the world from St. Martins back in the 19th century. St. Martins was once a bustling shipbuilding town, and these captains braved dangerous voyages, some of them never making it back home. Their stories are carved into the gravestones, and standing there, it felt like we were walking among history.
There are two large fenced-off areas with gravestones—some of them a little worn and faded by time, much like the captains who spent their lives facing the unpredictable sea. We spent some time wandering around, but I stayed respectful (no digging, I promise!).
Heading Back
After we explored the burial ground, we had a choice: cross the road and take the multipurpose trail back to the car or retrace our steps. We decided to head back the way we came—after all, that trail was just too pretty not to walk through twice!
It’s a perfect blend of nature and history, with an easy walk and beautiful surroundings. Plus, I got some great sniffs in!
Rumor’s Rating

Rumor has it, these captains might have faced stormy seas, but this trail’s as calm and peaceful as can be.
This trail is easily combined with the Flower Pot Rocks Trail, so if you’ve got a little more energy, go check it out! But for a quick, scenic adventure with a touch of history, this is a must-do. Until our next adventure, happy tails!
